Q What is Web Site Hosting?
A
Once your web site is designed and constructed, it needs a "home" on the internet. We provide that home. Web Site Hosting is a service that allows you to upload and store a site's web pages and related files on a Web server. This makes the files available on the World Wide Web for viewing by the public.

Q What about free web site hosting?
A
While this may be ok for your hobby or personal page, free web site hosting is not a professional solution. Free site hosting often includes advertising on your web pages that you have no control over, pop-up ads, and your web site address would look like "http://www.isp.com/yourcompany/", "http://users.your internet service provider.com/your user name/your web page.htm" or "http://www.geocities.com/your user name/your web page.htm".
PLEASE NOTE: We can also provide web site hosting for personal web sites, such as a family site, photo gallery, home for sale, etc.

Q  What is a Server?
A  A WWW computer that stores Web documents and makes them available to the rest of the world.

Q   What is a UNIX Server?
A
UNIX based hosting is hands-down the winner when it comes to stability. Servers running on UNIX enjoy extremely high up-time and high availability/reliability. UNIX-based hosting is more stable, performs faster and is more compatible than other server types.

Q   What is a Virtual Server?
A
This allows you to have your own domain name such as "yourcompany.com" rather than use your ISP's domain name with a subdirectory designating your site, such as "http://www.isp.com/yourcompany/". You definitely want virtual hosting.

Q   What is a domain name?
A
Your web site address or URL (Uniform Resource Locator). A domain name must be registered in order to secure it so that it is not taken by someone else. Danielle's Design.Com will register your domain name and handle the technical issues and management. A domain name costs $35.00 per year.

Q  Should I register my domain name before setting up a hosting account with you?
A If you register your domain name before setting up a hosting account, it will need to be transferred to whichever host you chose. Domain transfers are $25.00. This is a one-time fee. In order to help you avoid this fee, we register your domain name for you. E-mail us if you would like for us to check a domain name's availability.

Q  How do I transfer my web site hosting and domain to you?
A
If you have a web site currently hosted by another company, it must be transferred in order for you to host your web site with us and take advantage of all the features we offer. It can be a tedious process but we will handle the complete transfer without you having to worry about a disruption in your web site or e-mail.

Q Someone else built my site, can you still host it?
A
Definitely! We provide a wide range of web site services, including design, development and management, but we can host your web site whether we build and maintain it, or not.

Q  What's an e-mail 'alias'?
A
With your hosting package, you get five e-mail accounts. (Additional accounts can be added.) If for example, sales@yourcompany.com needs to go to your sales department, while info@yourcompany.com needs to go to your receptionist, each account can be set up on each computer. (If you are local, Danielle's Design.Com sets this up at no charge. If you are out of the Lewis-Clark valley, we can still provide training free of charge.) However, if you need both e-mail aliases, 'sales' and 'info' to be sent to the same computer, you get as many aliases as you need.

Q  What is WebMail?
A
WebMail is web-based e-mail, a service that allows users to send and receive e-mail (and usually to store e-mail and manage accounts) from a web interface. WebMail is great if you are away from your office or on vacation. Easy to use, safe and private.

Q How do I figure out which hosting package we need?
A

Danielle's Design.Com will assist you and answer any questions you may have. Basically, we offer three hosting types; 1Standard Virtual Hosting, 2Standard Virtual Hosting Plus and 3E-Commerce Web Site Hosting.

Standard Virtual Hosting: Use this package for non-commerce hosting; if you do not need to accept credit cards from your web site.

Standard Virtual Hosting Plus: The same package as the first one, plus Shopping Card or credit card capabilities. PayPal allows you to accept credit cards on-line from those with a PayPal account. Anyone can use your PayPal shopping cart; upon 'checkout', they will enter their credit card and contact information, as well as set up a user name and password if they do not have an account with PayPal. It is not generally a long process, and is similar to any Shopping Cart process. Although it is easy to use, looks professional, is safe and secure, and is less expensive than an E-Commerce/Merchant server, it is not as versatile and is somewhat limited.

E-Commerce Web Site Hosting is recommended for selling on-line. If you need to accept credit cards, have special shipping and handling methods or if your products/services require many option choices (personalization, color, size, etc.) this is the best package for you.
